Done. Dusted.

Opening Season Tourney over for another year. Well done to all the winners and finalists today, and to everyone who took part throughout the week.

Some great stuff in the scorching heat. 2 tense tie breaks in the mixed doubles with Alex and Caroline ultimately coming through to take the crown. PHT managing to win all 4(four) of his matches with a dodgey groin. And well done to Theo for winning the men's singles reverse on his oadby tournament debut!

A poor showing from all 4 involved in the men's doubles final though. Taking to the court without any tennis balls and then moaning to the desk that they weren't given a new set is exactly the sort of behaviour that will be remembered and greeted with an unfavourable schedule next time round...;)

Also, apologies to Lilia and Matt for getting them out of bed so early this morning. Apparently, i should've known that juniors and 10am semi finals aren't a good fit!

Thanks to Louise and the kitchen staff, and to all who have assisted with the smooth running of the tournament this week.

Bring on the summer!

Wednesday and Thursday

A very busy couple of days...36 matches played to be exact! Well done to all of you who have defied tiredness, soreness, injury or age to play 2-3 a night.

A mention tonight for Minski and O'Connor's matching pink highlighter coloured attire. Serious thought and planning had clearly gone in there so well done guys but brave, very brave..:)

Luckiest/Jammiest git of the week award goes to second team skipper Alex Brown who somehow came through all 3 of his matches tonight! (No bitterness whatsoever from my side for robbing me of the chance to play in a couple of finals) Definitely think a dabble on the euromillions is in the offing for you tomorrow night Browny!

We're down to the last few semis and then finals now so please do come down on Saturday and have a butcher's! Matches from 10-3.

Highlight could well be seeing the chair be 'bashed from side to side' (her words) as Katie and Steph take on the might of Lilia and Rosie in the women's doubles final.

Enjoy a well deserved tennis-free Friday folks.

And just to add.....

For some reason the TD failed to mention the first match on/off at 6pm yesterday when he did a demolition job on his own father in the men's singles.....with barely raising a sweat....cruel !

Not yet paid your fees ? Please pay tonight to avoid the debtors' list going public tomorrow !

Food tonight will be jacket potatoes with range of fillings. Off to Asda to get supplies soon....

Tuesday Heatwave

Beautiful day to be on a tennis court, as the standard of tennis went up a notch! So did the volume on courts 3 and 4 as both Gordon and Tim both appeared to be losing it at times...as we all know, playing against Hussein and Ben respectively can do this to any player!

Some of the seeds starting to motor now, thanks to those who played multiple matches!

There was an excellent women's singles on court 2, congratulations to Grace for putting up with Leavy and those ridiculous goggles and have to get in that Andy had a smashing time out on court 6...good to see the competitive spirit coming to the fore!

Thursday's schedule now up but there will be a couple more matches added in at 8 so please stay
alert...

Lots of matches still to squeeze in between now and a Saturday afternoon finish so please be prepared to play back to back where necessary!

Monday 13 April 2015

Sunday blow out!

Whilst the wind did it's best to lower the standard of tennis, still plenty to feast the eyes on today. Not least PHT's skintight, lime green tank top ( I'm sure that thing must have had a Years 7-8 label on it somewhere)

Well done to Imran and Jon Stone on teaming up for the first time and winning both their matches, and to Chris and Anna for a big win in the mixed.

Thanks to Steve and Withers for brightening up the clubhouse(not so much though for narrowing the table tennis arena Ollie and Jack might argue!), and to Sue and Katie for sorting out the Wimby draw...

Monday's schedule has some great matches so come down, watch, and sample Louise's chilli if you're not playing!

Saturday 11 April 2015

Saturday's Play

Opening day's play complete without too many hiccups....apologies to John Braint for the unexpected singles call up and to Paul Facer for making the unnecessary marathon journey down the A6.

Good to see so many people making their tournament debuts. Some exciting matches, 3 tie breaks, and the O'Connor-Greenwood clash living up to all expectations. Special shoutout to Ollie for carrying team Noble into the quarter finals and to the Roundhill lads for a 100% record on the day!

After the tennis, attention soon turned to the Grand National. Congratulations to Julie on claiming the winner with Many Clouds.

Monday's schedule is now available but stay alert to any possible additions depending on Sunday's results...

Withers (From 11am) and the Wimbledon draw (12 noon) coming up on Sunday so come down and get involved if you're not playing.

Louise's Chilli on the menu for Monday.

Nearly 90 entrants in all, with 10 of our newer members entering for the first time.

The draw and schedule will be online by Wednesday 8th April at the latest.

If you asked for a partner in the men's doubles, we will be able to pair you up with someone.

If you asked for a partner in the mixed, sorry but there was only one lady wanting a partner, so we can't arrange partners for 6 of the people who asked.

Please come along (sign up to say you will be attending, please).
