Sunday blow out!

Whilst the wind did it's best to lower the standard of tennis, still plenty to feast the eyes on today. Not least PHT's skintight, lime green tank top ( I'm sure that thing must have had a Years 7-8 label on it somewhere)

Well done to Imran and Jon Stone on teaming up for the first time and winning both their matches, and to Chris and Anna for a big win in the mixed.

Thanks to Steve and Withers for brightening up the clubhouse(not so much though for narrowing the table tennis arena Ollie and Jack might argue!), and to Sue and Katie for sorting out the Wimby draw...

Monday's schedule has some great matches so come down, watch, and sample Louise's chilli if you're not playing!

Saturday's Play

Opening day's play complete without too many hiccups....apologies to John Braint for the unexpected singles call up and to Paul Facer for making the unnecessary marathon journey down the A6.

Good to see so many people making their tournament debuts. Some exciting matches, 3 tie breaks, and the O'Connor-Greenwood clash living up to all expectations. Special shoutout to Ollie for carrying team Noble into the quarter finals and to the Roundhill lads for a 100% record on the day!

After the tennis, attention soon turned to the Grand National. Congratulations to Julie on claiming the winner with Many Clouds.

Monday's schedule is now available but stay alert to any possible additions depending on Sunday's results...

Withers (From 11am) and the Wimbledon draw (12 noon) coming up on Sunday so come down and get involved if you're not playing.

Louise's Chilli on the menu for Monday.

Thanks to everyone who got their forms in on time. For those we had to chase up,  hopefully forms are now with Phil !!

Nearly 90 entrants in all, with 10 of our newer members entering for the first time.

The draw and schedule will be online by Wednesday 8th April at the latest.

If you asked for a partner in the men's doubles, we will be able to pair you up with someone.

If you asked for a partner in the mixed, sorry but there was only one lady wanting a partner, so we can't arrange partners for 6 of the people who asked.

Wimbledon Draw

Reminder that the draw will be held on Sunday 12th April at 12 noon.

Please come along (sign up to say you will be attending, please).

Full rules are on display at the club.

Juniors aged 9 by Sunday 12th can apply but must be accompanied to the draw by a parent if under 16.

Just a reminder that if you are successful in the draw, it has to be you that attends Wimbledon, together with a guest.

  • All finals (including reverse draws) will be held on Saturday 18 April.
  • Please take into account your availability when deciding how many events to enter. If your availability is limited, please restrict the events you enter to one/two.
  • We ask that you check your availability for the whole tournament week now and do not introduce new unavailability once you have entered as this always causes problems with scheduling. Please note that the scheduler/organisers reserve the right to scratch any player in this respect.
  • If you do need to change availability, please write details down at the Tournament Director's desk. This is to avoid missed calls, e mails, texts etc which have caused problems in the past.
  • It is the responsibility of all competitors to find out their match times. The schedule of play will be online a minimum of 24 hours ahead of play. Please always check to see whether you have one or two matches on any day/evening. If you do not have internet access, please ask someone else to check your match times. We cannot undertake to text out match times.
  • Please arrive on time for all matches. If you are likely to be late, please phone the Oadby Clubhouse to inform the organisers (0116 2712889). As scheduling can be tight, please be aware that if you are unreasonably late, it is likely that your opponent(s) will be given a walkover. The Tournament Director's decision is final in this respect.
  • If you would like us to find you a partner for any doubles event, please put ‘Partner Required’ on the form and we will do our best to help.
  • The usual club dress code applies throughout the tournament i.e. white shirts/tops or coloured tennis shirts/tops not football shirts or beachwear. The usual club expectations about behaviour both on and off court apply throughout the tournament. All competitors must provide a can of good quality tennis balls for their matches.
  • It is club tradition that winners offer their opposition a drink after the match. Hot/cold drinks available throughout and a full catering service from the kitchen. Hot meals each evening and snacks each weekend. Tournament menu to follow.
